Ishant शर्मा Profile

Profile

Over the years, India have always lacked a tall fast bowler. Not anymore as Ishant Sharma, 6’4" and a right-arm medium pacer, emerged on the scene with the potential to hit it big at the international stage. His armoury consists of sharp and deceptive bouncers which batsmen struggle to fend. Sharma shot to fame during the 2007-08 Test series in Australia. His rhythmic, high-arm action permitted him to bowl at around 135-140 kph. For someone who started playing serious cricket at 14, his rise has been rapid and he made his Ranji Trophy debut at 18. An injury to Munaf Patel presented him an opportunity during India's tour of Bangladesh in May 2007 but it was in Australia where he really shone. Steve Waugh went on to call him the next best thing that happened to Indian cricket. He illustrated he could move the ball both ways and his famous spell in the second innings at Perth, where he set up Ricky Ponting, was the talk of the series. Ishant constantly impressed in the one-day series, ending as India's highest wicket-taker in the triumphant campaign. He will be a speedster to watch out for in the future.
